The painting comes from Seville, where the collector Don Antonio Muñoz bought it. Doña María Luisa Caturla estimated its value and thanks to her intercession it was acquired in 1957. In an article about Zurbarán published in the magazine “Goya” he analyzes the painting in detail and points out the existence of two other versions: one, in the Valdés collection in Bilbao and another owned by the Brunet family in San Sebastián. He considers the canvas to be “the master's first dark phase, interrupted by his stay in Madrid in 1634".
He appeared in the exhibition “La découverte de la lumière des Primitifs aux Impressionistes” held in Bordeaux in 1959.
