Don Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba

The painting, which may have belonged to the Grand Duke, was transferred to the Casa de Alba when the granddaughter of Don Luis Méndez de Haro married the 10th Duke of Alba. It is among the 32 paintings inherited by the 7th Duke of Berwick and 14th Duke of Alba, Don Carlos Miguel Fitz-James Stuart, after the death of the 13th Duchess of Alba.

The attribution to Tiziano is already recorded in Don Luis Méndez de Haro's inventories.
